1931. A petite young actress, scarcely three years old, danced at a private dinner party hosted by Robert Redd for his friends. A photograph remains of the future child star, sporting a robin’s egg dress and holding a bouquet of violets in her hands. Although Robert couldn’t have known then that by the age of six, her name would become a household word, he was nonetheless accurate in his prediction, whispered to her after the dance ended, that “Surely you’ll conquer any audience with talent like that.”
