Robert Redd’s manuscripts and personal effects were discovered just a few years ago at the end of the twentieth century, hidden in a nook behind a family portrait of Robert Redd. This group of accoutrements, comprised of various trinkets, maps and of course, Redd’s insightful journals, spans over a century of experiences, adventures and evolution. The information provided in Redd’s manuscripts is being faithfully researched and recorded by the company’s Chief Historian and Creative Director in an effort to more effectively piece together the striking narrative of Robert Redd. As another season of production is unveiled, the fascinating discovery of Robert Redd’s journals and belongings merits re-visiting.

One summer afternoon, a ray of sun was falling across a rather dashing portrait of Robert Redd such that it illuminated the dust and smudges marring the luster of the century-old painting.

In the hopes of recalling the buoyant sparkle to Robert Redd’s features, the painting was taken down with great care. To the surprise of many, a rather substantial pocket had been hollowed out in the wall behind the painting, and tucked away inside were a variety of leather-bound notebooks, rolled canvases, and other sundry materials, many marked with the distinct penmanship of Robert Redd.

Redd seems to have written his memoirs in no particular order and in no particular style, sometimes merely scribbling provocative words and phrases, other times carefully describing the events in meandering, lavishly detailed accounts. However, a common theme of colorful characters and exotic countries permeates them all. A perusal of these memoirs and assorted materials has revealed that Robert Redd encountered many a wild adventure, and many a fine lady. From Indonesia to Persia to South America, no continent was beyond his reach; nary was a free or hostile nation spared. As these materials are studied and verified, the incomparable happenings of Redd’s life are only now being properly strung together.

Although details are still hazy, it appears that in 1899, Robert Redd, or “Redd” as he was affectionately known, secured the family’s manufacturing business. In the quest to manufacture the perfect line of garments, our hero traveled the world in search of inspiration. The company, Robert Redd, LLC, is founded upon these very rich and colorful exploits, keeping at its core the principal characteristics of its original inspiration, Robert Redd.

Perhaps the most defining characteristic of Robert Redd was his proclivity to extend love wherever he found himself. This principle of Robert Redd’s life is evident in every encounter he ever had, in every relationship in which he engaged and in every REDD garment produced. Most of all, the phrase was embodied in his loving relationship with Lady Redd. Ah yes, there was a Lady Redd, and her lively, good-humored spirit is evoked by each lady who chooses a REDD garment.
